Who is Testas<\/h2>

Can you briefly tell us what your company’s core business is and what you consider to be the biggest challenges?<\/em><\/strong>

Testas\u00a0is a wholesaler of non-ferrous metals, which is part of the group MCB (Metaalcompagnie Brabant).\u00a0That is\u00a0anything but pure steel<\/strong>, just think of aluminum, stainless steel and copper.\u00a0For this we provide\u00a0storage in the form of plates and profiles<\/strong>. We will then package them in a customer-specific manner (for example, a specific alloy or size).\u00a0We are also responsible for the rough sawing, so that the customer can continue with the product in a further phase.\u00a0Extra added value to the products is therefore not part of our core business.\u00a0Testas focuses mainly on the Belgian market, but you will also find us in Northern France, Luxembourg and a small part of the Netherlands.<\/p>

Initial need<\/h2>

What was the initial need within your organization to build a storage shed together with Frisomat?<\/strong><\/em>

With our first expansion after the acquisition in 2008, we realized that\u00a0additional space<\/strong>\u00a0was crucial to further grow the business.\u00a0That is why we decided to have an extra\u00a0warehouse built<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in 2016, so that we do not run out of space.\u00a0In 2018, we again opted for the services of Frisomat for a\u00a0new storage warehouse<\/strong>, which was completed earlier this year (2019).<\/p>

Requirements<\/h2>

What matters were of crucial importance to you in realizing this storage warehouse in order to be able to work optimally now and in the future?<\/strong><\/em>

It was especially important to us that, after delivery, we\u00a0still had a lot of freedom<\/strong>\u00a0ourselves .\u00a0We use racks to store material, which makes the use of intermediate columns extremely inconvenient.\u00a0With a\u00a0steel construction<\/strong>\u00a0that fully supports the roof, without extra support from intermediate columns, we have all the freedom to\u00a0
arrange the hall in the way that suits us best<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0For example, if our situation changes, we still have the option to make changes.<\/p>

Expertise<\/h2>

We entered into a partnership to build your bulk storage warehouse and the aim was to achieve an optimal result together, but how did you end up at Frisomat and why did you ultimately choose our expertise?<\/strong><\/em>

The headquarters of Testas is located in the Netherlands, with\u00a0steel as its core business<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0This is how our preference for (a) steel construction(s) arose.\u00a0The choice was therefore quickly made when we started looking for extra storage space in 2016. Frisomat itself has been known to us\u00a0for some time<\/strong>\u00a0, because they are our neighbour.\u00a0Like us, they opted for the peaceful surroundings of Wommelgem\/Wijnegem.\u00a0Moreover, there was already an existing relationship between the owner of Frisomat and the management team of Testas.\u00a0Naturally, Belgian-made and us-know-us also play an important role: why dive into the unknown, when you can go into the sea with your neighbour! We therefore sat down with Frisomat, and that quickly led to results: our new storage sheds.\u00a0The\u00a0information flow was short, and both the transport and the follow-up went very smoothly<\/strong>.

Process<\/h2>

How did you experience the process of building the storage shed?\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>

The construction of our first Frisomat storage shed in 2016 went off without a hitch.\u00a0Both the services during the process and the result were there<\/strong>\u00a0.

The initial start of the second pilot was a little less smooth.\u00a0Due to a number of internal shifts, we experienced problems, which resulted in a longer than usual process.\u00a0However, Frisomat\u00a0immediately took action<\/strong>\u00a0and made the necessary adjustments internally.\u00a0Partly due to the appointment of another project leader, the project continued to be professionally worked on, which ultimately\u00a0led to a qualitative result<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Both in terms of the management of the process and the quality of the warehouse.

As soon as the concrete ring beam was poured, everything went smoothly.\u00a0
We are also very satisfied with the communication<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Almost every morning the project manager visited the site and we discussed the progress.\u00a0In the event of a problem, communication was immediate and a solution was sought.\u00a0The follow-up was therefore\u00a0extremely professional<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/p>

Nowadays<\/h2>

How do you use the bulk storage warehouse in your organization today and does that meet your initial objective?<\/strong><\/em>

Testas mainly had a problem with space.\u00a0With so many different sizes and alloys, depending on the customer, logistics falters when there is a shortage of storage space.\u00a0With a Frisomat steel warehouse we were able\u00a0to create extra space<\/strong>\u00a0, absolutely necessary for our sector, because ‘if you don’t have it lying around, you won’t sell it’.\u00a0\u00a0Our warehouses are therefore used as a\u00a0
bulk storage hall<\/strong>\u00a0for flat plates, in order to expand storage capacities.<\/p>

New challenges<\/h2>

Are there new challenges for which you would call on Frisomat again?<\/strong><\/em>

We are currently discussing a growth plan for possible expansion, but for the time being this is only reflected in a market study into the potential.\u00a0However, extra space will certainly be needed, for which we\u00a0would like to work with Frisomat again<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/p>

Advice<\/h2>

What advice would you give to future organizations that want to build a warehouse?<\/strong><\/em>

Before you proceed to actually build a steel shed, it is\u00a0best to have a soil probe carried out<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0This way you know exactly what the quality of your surface is.\u00a0This way you avoid a lot of ambiguity, and the\u00a0process moves forward much faster<\/strong>.\u00a0Both the calculation of the foundation and the pouring of the concrete slab can run much more smoothly this way.\u00a0\u00a0In addition, steel construction is\u00a0a good choice for a storage hall<\/strong>.\u00a0This way you have a finished storage hall in record time, which you can use immediately.
